Farm of Tomorrow :: Rai 5
What might the farm of tomorrow look like? Here's two quick sketches done with SketchUp, Vray, and GIMP of an automated rice farm, monitored with a DIYdrone, watered with solar powered atmospheric water generators, and tended to by a gantry-style harvesters/planter/irrigation system.
Desktop Genetics Graphics
Graphics featured on Desktop Genetics new website were created in SketchUp and processed in GIMP. These graphics have also made their way onto brochures and on large format banners. To put them on banners, they were first sent to InkScape and converted into vector art through tracing, then enlarged to the required size.
SynBio Simulations Incorporated
This is a sci-fi concept for Synthetic Biology Simulations Incorporated, a fictional institute that safely and efficiency takes your synthetic biology projects and turns them into a reality. More on this concept can be found at Helios Labs here.
Lab-in-a-Box Concept
Visualizations for a "lab-in-a-box" concept. This project would later end up being further developed by another team, and is now called the "Darwin Toolbox."

3D SketchUp + Vray of MiSeq DNA Sequencer
This MiSeq DNA sequencer was recently modeled and uploaded to the SketchUp 3D Warehouse. It is for space planning and diagrams. It was modeled in SketchUp to scale according to the manufacturer's datasheet, rendered in Vray and edited in GIMP.
For more information and links, please see this entry on the Helios Labs blog.
Exhibition Design :: Royal Caribbean
An exhibition design for Royal Caribbean. It was built in SketchUp, rendered in Vray, and finished GIMP. Several un-rendererd images were constructed using SketchUp's styles tool and compositing them in GIMP.
Hokee Pau Kiosk - Singapore
An initial proposal for a Hokee Pau kiosk located in one of Singapore's many shopping malls. Two color schemes were used -- a red pattern over a lightbox, and a reflective orange pattern. Both can be seen above. The model was made in SketchUp, rendered with Vray, and edited in GIMP. The final A3 presentation boards were made in Layout.
Volvo Center - Singapore
Concepts for a Volvo Center next to one of Singapore's Comfort Delgro "Spark" centers. The model was built in SketchUp, rendered with Vray, and finished in GIMP. Because of the short deadline, many materials were "overridden" in Vray and screenshots then merged with the renders in GIMP to put in the materials afterwards. Lighting, reflective material, and the floor were rendered in Vray. This greatly speeds up the rendering process. Additionally, automated rendering was used - where an animation is set up using these settings explained here - allowing rendering through the night, further increasing speed and efficiency.
Auum Nail Spa :: Singapore
A nail spa concept in Singapore. Built up in SketchUp using original geometry and models downloaded from SketchUp's 3D Warehouse, it was rendered in Vray, finished in GIMP, and put on A3 presentation boards in SketchUp's LayOut.
