Layout

An initial proposal for a Hokee Pau kiosk located in one of Singapore's many shopping malls. Two color schemes were used -- a red pattern over a lightbox, and a reflective orange pattern. Both can be seen above. The model was made in SketchUp, rendered with Vray, and edited in GIMP. The final A3 presentation boards were made in Layout.

Auum_FloorPlan

A nail spa concept in Singapore. Built up in SketchUp using original geometry and models downloaded from SketchUp's 3D Warehouse, it was rendered in Vray, finished in GIMP, and put on A3 presentation boards in SketchUp's LayOut.

Metabolist-Inspired Hexagon Study

ModHouseLayout_1

The idea of an open source building system with a basic, open, well documented frame system that is then adopted by third-parties who devise and develop all sorts of panels to interlock with the frame is explored in this project. It was modeled in SketchUp, rendered in Vray and combined with .jpeg exports from SketchUp in GIMP before finally being brought together in an A1 SketchUp Layout template. An A1 .pdf can be found on Scribd here.

SL_layout_1

This was a Southern Living floor plan found online a while back that was used as the subject of a project for a SketchUp student. It was finally finished and rendered and then the images used in a few experimental scenes trying out some new styles.

SketchUp7 was used with Vray to render it, with GIMP used in post processing. Google's Layout was used for the third image. The watercolor and floor plan were the images found online.

Completed: Capricciosa Pasta & Pizza - Singapore

FinalLayout1_1
Opening week for Capricciosa's new Singapore location, situated in the newly completed J-Cube shopping center in Jurong East. While the design changed many times throughout development, the basic design elements remained and can be seen in final product.

Here is one of the last 3D renders done for the Capricciosa restaurant. The front facade had changed many times as did the floor-plan which can be seen throughout the included presentation boards.

Capricciosa is a pizza and pasta restaurant originally from Japan but has locations in Malaysia and now Singapore. The design challenges presented with this project included accommodating Capricciosa's signature design elements to the strict requirements of Singapore's new J-Cube shopping center.

If you look closely at the presentation boards and the 3D you will notice that not only had the design changed throughout the development process, but the entire floor-plan was "mirrored" multiple times. Despite this, most of the basic design elements were preserved throughout and can be seen in the final photographs.

Finally, in April 2012, the restaurant opened its doors to business.

The modeling was done in SketchUp7, rendered with Vray, and laid out in SketchUp's Layout program. Post-production work was done using the open-source GIMP program.

Hair Salon Proposal

OrangeSalonLayoutHeliosColors_1
The only requirements were to include a wood laminate floor, a shelf, and a "colorful" appearance. Attempting to balance the cleanliness usually associated with a modern salon with the "colorful" appearance required, a minimalist approach was used with the incorporation of a colorful feature wall with corresponding seating fabric. Four color schemes were proposed.

OrangeSalonLayoutHelios
Orange was eventually agreed upon, a rendering of the back room where hair washing is conducted as well as a consultation office were added along with a complete cutaway overview of the salon.

The front entrance of the salon.

The salon chairs, hair washing station, TV, & bulb lighting fixtures were brought in from the indispensable SketchUp 3D Warehouse, while the rest was created in-house. Rendering was done with Vray, editing in GIMP, and the presentation created with SketchUp's Layout.

Kiosk Design Update

Round2KioskLayoutHelios
A previous kiosk proposal received feedback from the client and has been adjusted to be more modern & economic in design.

Round2KioskLayoutOrangeHelios_1
Here is a more colorful version trying to maintain a modern but vibrant look.

These models were created in SketchUp7, rendered in Vray, and finished in GIMP. The presentations were done with SketchUp's Layout program. The previous kiosk design this current proposal is building on can be found here.

Architectural Renderings

Another rendering with SketchUp's perspective switched off to provide rendered elevations.

FabLab Layout

A potential layout, measuring 10x15m including 1. a meeting room/
classroom/design studio, and 2. a workshop area. Click image to enlarge.

1. a potential meeting room/classroom/design studio featuring
large tables to encourage collaboration and a "wrap-around" white
board to facilitate a large number of creative and educational activities.

2. a potential layout for the workshop area including a laser cutter,
CNC gantry router, an assembly table, a RepRap unit, table-top lathe,
CNC micro-mill, storage, and more traditional fabrication tools.

These images were done  to give readers an idea of what a Fab Lab looks like and what sort of equipment can be found in one. The model was made in SU7, rendered in GIMP, while the floor plan was labeled and arranged in SketchUp Layout.

Most of the models are taken from SketchUp's 3D Warehouse - which incidentally gives us a glimpse into the future of "personal fabrication" where one might browse a similar "warehouse" of designs and instead of including them in a 3D model, could instead "print" them out in a Fab Lab.

Custom Gen-5 Fighter

Front view revealing rectangular air intakes.

Lofting with the Curviloft plug-in helped model the engine
assembly, merging the rectangular shape of the intake into
the round shape of the engine nozzle.

Orthographic views.

Delta-wing, twin engine 5th generation fighter concept.

Two Gen-5's in formation.

Based on several existing 5th generation fighters, this design features twin engines and a delta wing configuration. The engine layout is roughly based on the Russian Sukhoi PAK-FA, while the delta wings are based on Boeing's X-32. The body was influenced by the F-35's fuselage. Canted stabilizers were used as they are indicative of most 5th generation fighter designs.

The actual model was made possible by using the Soap Skin & Bubble plug-in to fashion the fuselage while lofting operations for the intake and engine assembly were done using the Fredosix Curviloft plug-in.

Classic Sofa Project

Initial concept for the Classic Sofa Project

Some preliminary detailing

This sofa design was modeled in SU7. Dimensions, and perhaps even a strategy for upholstering will be coming soon. Construction will consist of cutting out several 2D shapes which are then locked together to form the basic structure. Upholstery foam would then be glued or stapled onto the framework with fabric coverings to follow.

This design is intended to be completely open-source for others to build or improve upon and emulates many features of flat-pack furniture projects already out there. Look for updates as this project evolves, and hopefully gets built.

Mil Helicopter's Mi-1

Mi-1 modeled in SU7.

The Mi-1 was the first of many iconic helicopters produced by Russia's Mil Helicopter Plant. Movie enthusiasts may be familiar with the Mil Mi-24 gunship in Rambo 3, seen menacing the protagonist throughout the mountains of Afghanistan.

Revisiting the Mi-1 seemed the best way to explore many aspects of Mil's signature architecture carried forward into their later designs. Concerning the model itself, the difficulty of shaping the body in SU7 was made easier once again with Fredo6's CurviLoft plug-in.

MP3 Player + 2nd Workshop Proposal

A generic MP3 player to test techniques for product design renderings.

Another workshop proposal, using more traditional materials,
specifically cement blocks on a concrete foundation.

Saraburi Residential

Initial kitchen design, utilizing elements from contemporary German design. Stainless steel legs lift the sink and cupboard off the floor to make the design open and more easily cleaned. Concrete and wood are used to match the bathrooms and overall rough finish of the house.

Floor plan for communicating with contractors, includes renders of both bathrooms.
